Orbituno is an Idle and Simulation game, as Cookie Clicker, where the player controls a spaceship that use physics and special satellites to create a self-sustainable energy system around the sun, that must survive various space hazards.

Game’s description

Based on the idea of a Dyson Sphere, the player’s goal is to launch satellites to space, trying to surround the sun with solar panels in order to generate infinite energy. For this purpose, the player controls a spaceship that can move freely in space, that can buy satellites with energy, and launch them.

When doing so, the gravity of the sun will affect the trajectory of the satellites and they will orbit around the sun. The player can control the direction and the force when launching a satellite. It is key for the player to choose correcly the orbit when launching satellites because each satellite have a purpose and it’s distance from the sun greatly impact that purpose.

The main reason orbits are so importants are the obstacles that can be found in a solar systems. These are:

  • Sun: In addition to being the source of energy that the player is aiming to generate, the sun is dangerous and can destroy satellites to close to it.
  • Asteroids and Comets: Random obstacles traveling through the solar system. If a satellite is found across is path, it can be destroyed.
  • Black and White holes: This events can appear in any location of the solar system and they affect the orbit of satelllites too close to them, attracting or pushing them away.

In order to maintain the player’s energy system from this obstacles, various types of objects can be purchased, launched and upgraded:

  • Satellites: This generate solar panels all along the orbit of the satellite. The more solar panels are orbiting in an orbit, th more energy is generated.
  • Shields and Turrets: They defend satellites from asteroids and comets, either taking damage or shooting to destroy them.
  • Hive: This object repair near objects periodically using drones.
  • Antimatter and black hole bomb: In case the player decide to destroy a black hole or a white hole that have appeared, it can be done by purchasing one of these expensive bombs.

What I’ve worked on

In this project I have participated in the design of the whole game and I have programmed a large part of the demo.
